Ethan Kirkman

b. 1991

Born in the US and growing up in California, Ethan was surrounded by creativity. Having the influence of the natural beauty of the west coast, pop culture, and his father, being an artist in his own right, all set fertile grounds for Ethan's own artistic journey to grow.

With a strong foundation in woodworking, natural elements find their way into his art. His works include sculpture, three-dimensional art, and primarily, acrylic painting. The latter of which is focused on abstract expressionism. Finding much inspiration in the works of Mark Rothko, Ethan's paintings seek to convey the deeper emotions and feelings of the human experience rather than depict places and things. They are an experience.  In order to achieve this experience his canvases (both wood panel and stretched canvas) are done in large scale, to envelope the viewer in the piece.

Since moving to Grand Cayman in 2016, Ethan has pursued his own creative business and began focusing on his art career in 2021, working full time in his studio. In addition to his studio gallery, his works can be seen at Carlos Garcia's gallery at the Grove and have been displayed during Cayman Art Week 2022, 2024.
